Mekele City Mayor Dr. Gebremedhin Kiros applauded the effort of ERDA in supporting more than 5000 thousand IDPs, Refugees and other needy people in general, and its support to unaccompanied and separated children as well as its initiation to establish children’s village in particular. The devastating war in Tigrai has, among other things, caused displacement of more than 2.2 million people in Tigrai who were forced to live in IDP collective sites, among whome are more than 30,500 unaccompanied and separated children.

To address the post war effect on children, ERDA has designed a project to rehabilitate & reintegrate 20,000 UASC by establishing nine cluster centers throughout Tigrai.

The newly established center (at Kalamino) is supposed to address Mekele city and the surrounding South Eastern Zone Weredas, and could accommodate around 700 beneficiaries at a time intending to rehabilitate, reunify & reintegrate 2222 unaccompanied & separated children.
